The student lounge was turned into a jailhouse on Feb. 24 as the Queen's Law Cancer Society (QLCS) hosted its ninth annual “Jail & Bail” event. Bailiff Noah Leszcz, Law’15, arrested career counsellor Julie Banting, Law Students’ Society President Sean Coughlin, Law’15, and five other students, and put them in a makeshift cell. As judge, Dean Bill Flanagan read the trumped-up charges to a crowd of students, faculty and staff who then hurried to bail out the jailbirds. More than $450 in bail money was raised for the Canadian Cancer Society.

"Jail & Bail has always been well attended and supported, and this year was no exception!” says Ashley Staley, Law’15, QLCS’s events co-chair. “Despite the fact that it was held so soon after Reading Week, we were overwhelmed with how willingly students, staff and faculty donated their time and money towards such a good cause. With so many amazing charities being supported within the Queen's Law community, we are extremely grateful for the $450 we raised."

QLCS’s next big event is the ever-popular Cabaret for a Cure, an annual dance show with a bonus fashion show this year. The curtain will rise on March 13 at 7:30 pm at the Grand Theatre in downtown Kingston. Tickets are $15 and all proceeds will go towards raising awareness and funds for all forms of cancer.
