If you are seeking assistance for an incarcerated person with a prison- or parole-related legal issue, please visit the Queen’s Prison Law Clinic site.
Unique to Queen’s, the Queen’s Prison Law Clinic (QPLC) allows students to assist prisoners in one of six institutions with a number of legal issues for academic credit or in a paid summer position.
Students will provide legal advice, assistance and representation in matters relating to prison and parole in Kingston-area penitentiaries and Warkworth Institution.
You will work under the supervision of the clinic’s lawyers while you learn to manage the solicitor/client relationship, interview clients, conduct case-specific research, prepare examinations/cross-examinations of witnesses, draft legal submissions and represent clients at hearings.
You will have the opportunity to draft grievances, provide legal opinions, represent clients at Disciplinary Court hearings or before the Parole Board of Canada, conduct meetings with inmate groups and conduct test case litigation.
