There has been so much happening at Queen’s Law over the past three months that the new Queen’s Law Reports Online (November 2018) is a mega issue. It’s loaded with articles on faculty, students, staff and alumni – and features photos galore!
“We are never lacking for great news material at Queen’s Law,” says Lisa Graham, Communications Manager and QLR Editor. “Our community members are involved in so many fascinating endeavours and are making a positive impact on society in many different ways.”
Appearing on the front cover is Professor Samuel Dahan, head of the new Conflict Analytics Lab. He provides the inside scoop on this global consortium that is putting Queen’s Law at the forefront of research on applying A.I. to dispute resolution.
School news highlights include the unveiling of Indigenous artwork in the school’s atrium, the Queen’s Prison Law Clinic intervening at the Supreme Court of Canada, and the innovative Graduate Diploma in Legal Services Management that teaches JD students (and soon lawyers) the business of legal practice.
“The Influencers” showcases three alumni named to Canadian Lawyer magazine’s Top 25 Most Influential list. One of these grads is a retired Supreme Court of Canada justice and the other two are mentors to student members of the Black Law Students’ Association – Queen’s Chapter.
Student news includes stories on first-year students who as funded summer interns worked with various public-interest organizations. One intern helped restore justice to her native Mohawk community. Another helped lead a global project for a European financial institution. A third gained environmental litigation experience and saw arguments he drafted submitted in an application to the Supreme Court of British Columbia.
Featured prominently in this issue are two major fall alumni events: Homecoming and an Ottawa reception. “Alumni who went to these events get to relive highlights,” says Graham. “For grads who weren’t able to attend and for prospective students wondering about the Queen’s Law network, they can see in pictures the camaraderie and school pride that lasts long after graduation.”
Queen’s Law Reports Online (November 2018) is available in two formats: a downloadable pdf and an online flipbook. Read it now!
