Faculty, staff and students gathered in the student lounge on April 27 to thank Stan Corbett, Law’95, Associate Dean (Academic), for the dedicated and tireless service he has given to Queen’s Law as a senior administrator over the past seven years. He has held the top academic post for an unprecedented three terms, which Dean Bill Flanagan said is a “testament to his great dedication and skill.”
Corbett, a three-time Law Students’ Society teaching award winner, has also been Academic Director of the thriving Global Law Programs at the Bader International Study Centre in England while dealing with everything involved in the operation of the law school as associate dean. “Stan is a much-loved teacher who always receives outstanding evaluations from his students,” said Flanagan. “And he always offers me wise counsel with a great sense of humour.” Both times when the Dean asked for comments on re-appointing Corbett, faculty members responded with overwhelmingly positive feedback in favour of him continuing as Associate Dean (Academic).
Also thanking Corbett were Professor Emeritus David Mullan, LLM’73; Professor Nick Bala, Law’77; Gillian Ready, Law’87, Career Development Director; and Jennifer Dumoulin, Law’15.
As law school community members know, the role of associate dean can be complex and difficult. “It’s work I’ve enjoyed,” said Corbett, “because of the colleagues, students and staff I’ve worked with.”
