Lawlapalooza

For more than 30 years, Queen’s Law students have proven they aren’t just talented in the classroom and community – many of them have a second home on the stage! This year’s entertainers showed their musical chops on Feb. 11 at the annual Lawlapalooza. Students packed the Ale House in downtown Kingston to watch their schoolmates perform, bringing in $2,000 for two local organizations.

A dozen acts took the stage at “Lawla,” covering every genre of music from rock to opera. There was even a classical cello performance. “A lot of students in first-year have musical backgrounds so that really added to the type and number of acts we could showcase this time,” says Lawlapalooza co-chair Christine Haddad, Law’15.

“We started talking about Lawla in September and since then the excitement had been building in students to come out to support their friends, as well as two worthy causes.”

Thanks to sponsor Cassels Brock & Blackwell LLP, which covered the event’s operating costs, full ticket sale proceeds are being used to help feed the poor and enable Kingston-area residents to develop musical skills. The organizing co-chairs presented cheques for $1,000 each to the Salvation Army Food Pantry and the Joe Chithalen Memorial Musical Instrument Lending Library (“Joe’s Mill”).
