When Queen’s conveys its highest honour for services rendered to the university in November, Queen’s Law will be well-represented among the recipients.
The University Council Executive Committee announced the recipients of its Distinguished Service Awards on Thursday, July 8. One award will be granted to David Bonham, professor emeritus of the Faculty of Law and former vice-principal at Queen’s, and another posthumously to Stan Corbett, the longest serving associate dean in the Faculty of Law and former Academic Director, Global Law Programs, at the Bader International Study Centre
Materials gathered for Professor Corbett’s nomination, including a summary of Professor Corbett’s decades-long career at Queen’s and a wide range of letters of support, were presented to Professor Corbett at a luncheon in honour of his service as Associate Dean, Academic, in April of 2015. Professor Corbett passed away in late May, 2015, and a celebration of life is planned for October of this year.
Other Distinguished Service award winners include George Anderson, a long-serving member of the Board of Trustees and past chair of the Board’s Finance Committee; Paul and Vicki Gilliatt Hand, Queen’s benefactors and co-chairs of the Fields & Stadium Campaign Cabinet; Arunima Khanna, a cross-cultural counsellor in the Department of Health, Counselling, and Disability Services and advocate for diversity and equity; and Gordon Smith, Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Science and professor of musicology/ethnomusicology.
The Distinguished Service Awards will be presented at the University Council Dinner on Saturday, November 7, 2015 at Queen’s University.
